Judge Elizabeth Callan first found her love of public service working at the prestigious Washington, DC Public Defender Service as an intern. As she studied law, her love for helping people grew. She later was appointed to serve on the Hamilton County Public Defender Commission.
As a prosecutor, Judge Elizabeth Callan worked hard to keep communities safe, successfully prosecuting felony crimes in the Common Pleas Court.
In the private sector, Judge Callan practiced civil litigation with some of Cincinnati’s premier law firms. Understanding the complexities of business litigation, she also strives to provide reasoned and fair decisions that best serve our business community. While in private practice, she still found time to handle legal matters on a pro bono basis, such as for the Ohio Justice and Policy Center.
In 2019 the Governor appointed her to serve as judge on the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas. In this role, Judge Callan continues to work hard to support, rehabilitate, and protect our community.
Judge Callan has earned the reputation of treating all who enter her court with dignity, fairness, and respect under the law. She protects victims and helps those who are most vulnerable find a pathway to treatment and rehabilitation.
Outside of her legal career, Judge Callan has a history of deep involvement with helping the youth of Hamilton County. She served on the board and is active on a committee of Lighthouse Youth Services helping teens rise to their full potential. She also works with a committee of the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati helping women and families.
Judge Callan spends most of her free time on a sports field with her husband and two young sons. Judge Callan is enthusiastic about basketball and is also known for having the best jump shot in Ohio.
